We refurbished, the Criterion Backpackers provides travellers with quality facilities, exceptional services, and modern day conveniences to ensure that their experience in Hawke's Bay is a pleasurable one.

For an added convenience to our guests, nearly all rooms at the Criterion have washbasins. Common areas at the Criterion Backpackers are comfortable, welcoming, and smoke free.

Our tidy kitchen, complete with gas oven/stovetops and microwaves, is perfect for preparing your favorite international dishes.

During the day, the sun pours in through the windows adding a sparkle to our open-spaced dining area. Spend your evening relaxing with a glass of wine while watching the magical Hawke's Bay sunset out on the verandah or challenge one of your fellow travellers to a game of pool, monopoly or cards.

We want you to feel at home while staying at the Criterion, perfect for fruit pickers looking for seasonal work or for booking one of Hawke's Bay's many activities.

We can always accommodate groups of backpackers that are travelling together.
